Sheffield Centre for Robotics (SCentRo)

The Sheffield Centre for Robotics or SCentRo for short is a new collaborative faculty between the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University. It is the first joint faculty between the universities and looks to be a very exciting venture.

SCentRo went live and opened it's doors to the public (figuartively speaking, they are yet to find their own premesis) on 1st September 2011 following the TAROS Conference held at Sheffield Hallam University.

In time for their launch I developed a comprehensive identity system which is able to adapt and evolve with their constant moving forward in the field of robotics. The identity focuses on the two shapes of the universities and their interaction with one another. This enabled multiple symbols to manifest and create a visual representation that is always changing.

The typeface used is Thoms Brousil's Tabac Sans Light, chosen for its readability and little personality traits such as the beak-like strokes on the C and the &.

18 symbol variations, this doubles when considering which shape becomes dominant in the symbol.

cards
Business card examples, each faculty member will have their own variation of the symbol. Members from SHU will have their shape dominant (shown left) and members of UoS the opposite (shown right).

Letterhead example, the letterheads work the same as the business cards. They use large versions of the symbols on the back with each faculty member having their own variation.

The website was built by Hans Penders based on my design. Visit it here.
Photographs from the launch night will be up soon, unfortunately I wasn't able to make it.
